National Procurement is NHSScotland's Procurement Centre of Expertise. We provide goods, services technology solutions and procurement advice to NHSScotland's 14 regional Health Boards and 8 Special Health Boards. Together with colleagues across NHSScotland, we strive towards procurement best practice and delivery of new innovative ways of working that ensure siginficant financial and service efficiencies.

Strategic Sourcing

Our Strategic Sourcing team aims to maximise the potential savings by NHS Scotland by sharing the benefits of their collaborative buying power. These savings, which to date are in excess of £70M across the service, are being realised daily by the application of best-practice strategic sourcing processes, working with key suppliers to obtain best value products and services, to the benefit of NHS Scotland as a whole.

Logistics

We have established a fit for purpose logistics infrastructure which compares with the best in the private or public sector. Our logistics strategy is based around simplifying the physical supply chain using managed distribution systems capable of achieving substantial economies of scale, delivered from our purpose built National Distribution Centre at Canderside Larkhall. This facility provides a modern warehousing and logistics capability as well as accommodating many of our key staff from all functions.

e-Procurement and Systems

A crucial element of our approach is the effective deployment of world-class procurement technology within the Health Boards.  The e-Procurement Scotland (ePS) service offers user access to a variety of tools that support both strategic and transactional procurement, enabling new methods of collaboration both with NHS Scotland and our suppliers. As of June 2009, NHS Scotland has transacted over £1BN through Pecos.
